Tech Innovation To Support Aging
Technology is rapidly emerging as an important tool for maintaining and improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults. Faced with the broad challenges of a rapidly expanding ageing population, an increasingly limited workforce and economic resources, a dramatic increase in chronic disease and functional limitations, pressures on family caregivers, and the unique challenges of older adults living in both urban and rural areas, “connected aging” technologies are becoming an increasingly critical tool for providers, public agencies, and older adults themselves.
This session will present an update of trends in “smart health” technology-enabled solutions, including telehealth, sensors, mHealth, and big data and analytics. Smart health technologies are rapidly being used for wellness/prevention and supporting independent living (wearables, quantified self, and the internet of things); conducting diagnostic and care interventions (nanotechnology and telehealth); and supporting independent and community living, residential care, and the continuum of health care. Experts in developing and implementing aging technology solutions will speak to the latest advances, design issues, technology trends, and opportunities and needs in regard to technologies for older adults and service providers
