Scott Zeller, MD, is Vice-President leading the Acute Psychiatric Medicine division of the 2,000-physician partnership Vituity (formerly known as CEP America); the division includes the Emergency Psychiatry, Inpatient Psychiatry, and Telepsychiatry Practice Lines. Dr. Zeller is the former Chief of the Psychiatric Emergency Services for the Alameda County Medical System in Oakland, CA — where he developed what has become known as “The Alameda Model” where he was for over 30 years in Emergency Psychiatry, where he has personally cared for more than 80,000 patients. Dr. Zeller co-founded JSA Health Telepsychiatry in 2006; the company pioneered the concept of On-Demand Emergency Telepsychiatry. Dr. Zeller is an Assistant Clinical Professor at both the University of California-Riverside and Touro University medical schools, and is Past-President of the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry.

He is the author of multiple textbooks, peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and lectures internationally as a keynote speaker. He led development of both the USA and International Guidelines on Evaluation of Treatment of Agitation, and has published research on innovative designs for emergency mental health care, which he has also helped to implement in hospitals around the country; these works led his being named the 2015 USA “Doctor of the Year” by the National Council for Behavioral Health in Washington, DC. Dr. Zeller’s most recent book is “The Diagnosis and Management of Agitation”, published in 2017 by Cambridge University Press of London.
