San Francisco Conference Features Live Keynote Address by California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom

Lt. Gov. Newsom will address how technology can favorably impact public health, our communities and the healthcare system at 2:30 p.m. PDT on April 19, 2013. Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, will provide a written public statement for the conference.

The second annual Health Technology Forum Innovation Conference takes place on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University of California San Francisco Mission Bay Conference Center. The conference brings together technology and healthcare luminaries from public and private sectors to address gaps in healthcare that exist locally and propose technology solutions that can be applied globally to address world public health problems.

“Significant healthy debate during the conference panel discussions is intended to surface technology solutions that could be used to help solve pervasive public health problems,” said Pronoy Saha, conference organizer.

The conference will feature new technology demonstrations, case studies and panel topics including:

•          The Role of Technology in the Affordable Care Act

•          Digital Media Law in Healthcare

•          Using Technology to Support Care for Dual Eligibles

•          Design Thinking for the Underserved

•          How Robots Can Be Used in Healthcare

•          Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship

A second keynote address, “How to bring high-tech healthcare to a low-tech world”, will be moderated at 11:15 a.m. PDT by National Public Radio (NPR) Tech Nation’s Moira Gunn and David Duncan.

On April 13, 2013, Saha will host a Code-a-thon at Runway SF, a technology incubator, where developers will create new applications to improve access to health for the underserved. The winner of the Code-a-thon will be announced at the Health Technology Forum Innovation Conference.
